About me
In addition to my position as a PhD-researcher at Utrecht University, I am a primary school teacher. Two days a week I teach children from 9-10 years old. The other three days I get to spend on my PhD-project. A project wherein I want to develop a 'didactics of hope' in contest of climate change education.
In my first study (the study I will talk about during my paper session on Wednesday the 16th of April, at 01:00 PM, location 204) I try to identify children's narratives of the future regarding climate change. I did that using the Draw, Write, and Tell (DWT) approach. Children drew their own probable (what is most likely to be true) future and were asked during an interview to comment on what they had drawn. During this interview, I also asked the children if this future was also their preferable (what they want to come true) future. The answers varied from yes and no.
In the upcoming studies, I want to develop an approach to climate change education in collaboration with pedagogical, educational and climate experts (which of course include children). What does 'hopeful' climate change education look like? What does it ask of teachers in terms of skills and attitude to teach about climate change?
